This project, located in the Old West Austin National Register Historic District, consisted of a remodel of the existing kitchen and family room, and additions to accommodate a new mudroom, breakfast area and garage (with a bedroom and bathroom above it). Because of its location, the project was required to undergo a historic review process, which required that any new construction be aesthetically similar to the existing house. Both the remodel and new construction incorporated green building practices, including icynene foam insulation at the ceiling, cellulose insulation in walls, new aluminum-clad wood windows, and a high-efficiency air conditioning system.
