The 2nd Street Studio was originally designed as a garage apartment for some clients who subsequently sold the property. The new owner decided she wanted to build it as a rental unit. The footprint was dictated by setbacks, square footage requirements, and a mature pecan tree in the back yard. The ground floor comprises a carport adjacent to a secondary living space; the 2nd floor consists of a galley kitchen and eating area, a small living area, a bedroom with ensuite bath, and a roof deck adjacent to the pecan tree. The east-facing wall at the stairwell is clad in translucent polycarbonate, which provides privacy while providing ample light to both levels. Stucco, corrugated metal siding and painted hardi-plank comprise the material palette.
